What Is CBCT?
CBCT stands for Cone Beam Computed Tomography. Using a highly detailed yet user-friendly computer software, this imaging technique yields full 3D displays of the mouth and teeth, allowing those in orthodontics and related dental arenas to get a much more accurate view of their patients.
Though the technology has been in development for quite some time, it has only been introduced to the dental field and adapted for orthodontic practices in more recent years.
What Makes CBCT So Different?
What many people do not know is that previous imaging techniques were/are highly limited in comparison to CBCT. In fact, before CBCT only 2D images could be produced (those that appeared to be in 3D were an illusion, being actually separate 2D images put together).
This new form of imaging also makes it easier to view soft tissues, bones and other surrounding features, which is even more important for orthodontics.
